Protecting the Sea Turtles of Brazil

What at once seemed an adventure of some young oceanographers, with their marvelous dreams of saving the sea turtles in Brazil, today is as real as life itself. With a lot of work, research, scientific and technical knowledge, love and dedication, they went where the turtles were - and specially the man.

The TAMAR Project, administered by IBAMA in partnership with the Pro-TAMAR Foundation, monitors 1000 kilometers of beaches, with 20 stations covering 8 Brazilian states. Ninety per cent of the people involved in this work, are members of the communities where the bases are established.

The success of the preservative action and the importance of the social role it has, gave Tamar national and international prestige, credibility and recognition.
